We have established several ongoing weekly Path of Freedom classes at various facilities at the Adult Correctional Institutions (part of RI-DOC) in Cranston, Rhode Island since 2010. We have classes in four facilities for both male and female prisoners.
Prison Mindfulness Research Project
In 2011 we launched our first five-year research initiative to assess the impact of our Path of Freedom curriculum at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections (RI-DOC), integrating mindfulness practice with emotional intelligence training (MBEI) and social emotional learning. We are also planning a long term study of the effects of mindfulness on women in prison as well. Read more here.
We continue to support a program we started in 2006 at the Lookout Mountain maximum security for juvenile males. The Front Range Dharma Punx group is now delivering our “The Path of Freedom” curriculum weekly there. Hundreds of young men have attended the class which focuses on mindfulness awareness skills, contemplative movement, nonviolent communication and other topics covered in our Path of Freedom workbook.
