Gift and Legacy Planning
You can make a lasting contribution to the power of transformative justice by naming PDN as a beneficiary in your will, or a recipient of a portion of your estate, or by establishing a charitable trust.
Bequests
PDN recommends the following language for use in wills, with four examples of bequest types.
"I hereby give, devise and bequeath to Prison Dharma Network, a non-profit corporation of the State of Massachusetts:
Percentage __________% of my estate."
Specific: the sum of $ __________."
the shares of stock in __________ Company/Corporation.
"my real property, commonly known as __________."
Residual: all of the residue of my estate, including real and personal."
Contingent (preceding the above paragraph): "In the event of the death of any of my beneficiaries (followed with percentage, specific, or residual language above)"
Charitable Trusts
A variety of charitable trusts or "life income agreements" offer significant tax advantages, a regular income for you, and long-term support for PDN. For more information about bequests, charitable trusts, or other planned gifts, please contact us.
Gifts of Stock
A gift of stock, real estate, or other appreciated assets can be tax savvy. You can donate a gift of stock without converting it to cash first, thus avoiding capital gains tax on its increase in value since purchase. Your charitable deduction will equal the stock's total market value.
